Hi, I’m Ronja Hakalehto
— a knitwear designer living in northern Finland. I share my days here with my husband, our three children, four dogs and a small flock of sheep. We live beside a quiet lake under the watchful presence of Nordic nature.
I first learned to knit in school at the age of six. I remember being drawn to the craft, captivated by the rhythm and feel of working with my hands though the true passion hadn’t yet taken root.
That changed when I met my husband at seventeen. When he discovered I could knit, he asked if I might make him a beanie. I said yes and began exploring patterns online. That search led me into the world of knitting blogs, where I discovered the incredible beauty and creative potential of knitting. From that day on, I haven’t stopped.
I went on to study art and then crafts, started a blog and eventually found my way to Instagram, where I began sharing my creative journey with a wider community. While expecting our first child, I stumbled upon the world of knitwear design — and immediately knew I had found the most meaningful and magical work I could imagine.
Soon I designed my very first pattern and published it on Ravelry. To my surprise, it wasn’t long before I began receiving messages from knitting publications. I continued creating new patterns, always balancing family life, and knitting whenever I found a quiet moment.
When our second child turned one, I took a leap of faith and began working full-time as a knitwear designer. I officially founded my business in 2020, and since then, I’ve been deeply grateful to call this my everyday work — designing timeless patterns that reflect the peaceful, rugged beauty of our northern home.
This landscape is the soul of my work. Every forest path, shifting season and moment of light finds its way into my designs. I couldn’t imagine doing this anywhere else; nature isn’t just a backdrop to my life, it’s the heartbeat of everything I create.
I hope you find joy, comfort, and inspiration in knitting my designs — just as I find in creating them.
Thank you for supporting my work.
With warmth from the North,
Ronja
